“Operation Precious Cargo”
Monday, June 22, 2009, a press conference was held to kick off our newest partnership. We are very proud to announce that The Brady Kohn Foundation, Community Blood Services, and St. Francis Hospital were able to finalize a partnership to make St. Francis a Public Cord Blood Collection facility. We were honored to have Senator Tom Carper, Congressman Michael Castle, Representative Deborah Hudson, and County Executive Chris Coons on hand to lend their words and support to The Brady Kohn Foundation Public Cord Blood Program at St. Francis. On May 9, 2009, the first umbilical cord blood unit was collected at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. We are so excited to have the team at St. Francis as partners in our mission to help mothers in Delaware Give Life. Twice. Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude goes out to all of the staff at St. Francis for their passion and commitment to their patients and their community.
Each year, 30,000 patients in the United States are diagnosed with a disease that can be treated or cured with the stem cells from umbilical cord blood. We are eternally grateful to St. Francis for helping us build the public cord blood bank so that these patients have a better chance of finding a match.
